1 Kings 3:3-15
A Father's Wisdom

When we think of "a father's wisdom," many of us immediately think of those memorable sayings handed down from one generation to the next.  The older we get, the more we discover that Dad may have known a thing or two after all.  As we come to 1 Kings 3, we find a son who is living on the wisdom he received from his father. David is nearing the end of his life, and Solomon is beginning his reign. Before David dies, he leaves Solomon with one final charge: Walk with God.

When God later appears to Solomon and says, "Ask! What shall I give you?" Solomon's response reveals that he had listened to his father well.

Our text today teaches us that a father's greatest gift is not wealth, or success. A father's greatest gift is wisdom that points his children toward God
