Matthew chapter 4 begins with Jesus being led by the Spirit into the wilderness, specifically “to be tempted by the devil.” In stating “That’s My King” we see again that Jesus is showing us how to deal with our own temptations and testing.
Jesus has just been publicly identified as the Son of God, and immediately Satan challenges that very identity: “If You are the Son of God...” Satan is essentially saying, “If that's who You are, prove it.” But Jesus doesn't need to prove His identity to Satan. Instead, He demonstrates what kind of Son He is—and what kind of King He is. He is a King who will not be ruled by His appetite. He will be ruled by the will of His Father. And in this encounter, we see three truths about the proving of the King.
