Matthew 4:18–22 moves from “A Prophecy of the King” last week—where Jesus called people to repent—to this week's passage, where we see what happens when people actually respond to the King. “The Personnel of the King” shows us that Jesus' kingdom advances through ordinary people who hear His call, leave their old priorities, and follow Him together. Jesus walked along the shore of the Sea of Galilee and called fishermen. Peter and Andrew were doing something very ordinary—casting their nets into the sea. James and John were mending their nets with their father. And then Jesus walked into that life and said two words that would change everything: “Follow Me.”
And Matthew tells us that “they immediately left their nets and followed Him.”
