"Two hundred fifty years ago, our forefathers wrestled with an important question: 'Who is our king?' They didn't arrive at independence lightly. Many pastors spent months preaching Romans 13 and urging submission to King George III. Only after much prayer, repeated petitions, and deep biblical study did many conclude they could no longer remain under his rule.
America was founded by rejecting an earthly king because the colonists believed he had exceeded his rightful authority. In John 19, however, Israel rejected the one King who possessed perfect authority. One rejection sought political liberty; the other rejected the very source of spiritual freedom.
And the question we still face today is “Who is Our King?”
